Exam Details:
The UG-CLAT is designed to be a test of aptitude and skills that are necessary for legal education.
- National level examination
- Offline mode
- Offers admission to law programs offered by 22 National Law Universities (NLUs) across the country
- Conducted by Consortium of National Law Universities consisting of the representative universities
Timeline (CLAT 2021):
Application: 1st – 31st March 2021 (Online only)
Exam Date: 13th June 2021 (2:00 – 4:00 PM)
Timeline (CLAT 2022):
Application: March 2022 (Tentative)
Exam Date: June 2022 (Tentative)
CLAT Eligibility:
- No upper age limit
- Minimum marks in the qualifying examination (i.e., 10+2 or an equivalent examination) must be:
- 45% marks (Gen / OBC / PWD / NRI / PIO / OCI categories)
- 40% marks (SC / ST categories)
- Candidates appearing in the final year of qualifying examination are also eligible to appear in CLAT examination. They shall be required to produce an evidence of their passing the qualifying examination at the time of admission, failing which they shall lose their right to be considered for admission.
- In case of equal marks, the break of tie shall be by the following procedure and order as under:
- Higher marks in the component / section on legal aptitude in the CLAT exam;
- Higher age;
- Computerised draw of lots
Exam Pattern:
- English Language: 28-32 questions, or 20% of the paper
- Current Affairs, including General Knowledge: 35-39 questions, or 25% of the paper
- Legal Reasoning: 35-39 questions, or 25% of the paper
- Logical Reasoning: 28-32 questions, or 20% of the paper
- Quantitative Techniques: 13-17 questions, or 10% of the paper

- Passages of about 450 words each
- Derived from contemporary or historically significant fiction and non-fiction writing
- Typical reading time will be 5-7 minutes

- Application of such rules and principles to situations
- Understanding of how changes to the rules or principles will change their application to situations
Logical Reasoning
- Passages of about 300 words each
- Questions based on –

- Recognition of argument, premises and conclusions
- Identification the arguments set out
- Critical analysis of reasoning patterns, Assessment of how conclusions may depend on particular premises or evidence
- Inference of what follows from the passage and application of these inferences to situations
- Drawing relationships & analogies, identification of contradictions and equivalence, and assessment of the effectiveness of arguments
Quantitative Aptitude
- Short sets of facts or propositions, graphs, or other textual, pictorial or diagrammatic representations of numerical information
- Questions based on –

- Derivation, inference, and manipulation of numerical information set out
- Application of various 10th standard mathematical operations on this information, e.g. ratios and proportions, basic algebra, mensuration and statistical estimation
