Refugees as assets to their new countries

Context:

  • As we commemorate World Refugee Day (June 20), we honour the bravery and resilience of the 103 million individuals who have been forcibly displaced due to conflicts and instability worldwide. These staggering figures mask a multitude of personal tragedies and unfulfilled expectations.

What’s significant now is:

  • This day acts as a call to action and sympathetic behaviour as well as a reminder of our shared duties as global citizens.
  • It is a day to promote intercommunal harmony and, most importantly, to reflect on the importance of integrating displaced people and refugees into our communities.
  • An unprecedented challenge is posed by global wars, such as the ongoing conflicts in Afghanistan, Somalia, Myanmar, and Ukraine, as well as the protracted conditions there.
  • Sadly, problems brought on by displacement also exist in South and Southeast Asia. India is home to about 250,000 forcibly displaced individuals, of which 50% are women and children.
  • India continues to warmly welcome and assist asylum seekers and refugees inside its borders, which is proof of our shared humanity.

  • It is our duty to remove these barriers and guarantee that everyone has access to equal opportunities in terms of employment, education, housing, and health care.
  • We must try to create an inclusive society while taking into account the unique needs of young refugees.
  • To ensure that truly no one is left behind, we should involve and include youth, especially young refugees, in the execution of the Sustainable Development Agenda.
  • We must act together immediately to address the rising number of people who are being forcibly displaced, since it is morally required to do so.
  • The Global Compact on Refugees acknowledges the gravity of the displacement issue and calls for solidarity from the viewpoint of the entire society.
  • It is predicated on the idea that everyone, including individuals, companies, non-governmental organisations, and community-based organisations, has a duty to assist those who have been forcibly displaced.
  • Additionally, it emphasises the need for assistance for host communities and the disproportionate impact on the Global South.

Conclusion:

  • At this crucial juncture in history, we have the power to shape the fate of next generations. We also exhort individuals, organisations, and governments to make donations in support of young people in refugee and host communities. By cooperating, we can actual
