PMAY Urban
About:
- This brings the total number of houses authorised under PMAY to 112.4 lakh (U). Of the 82.5 lakh that have been grounded for construction, 48.31 lakh have been finished and delivered.
- Additionally revealed was the “PMAY-U Awards 2021 – 100 Days Challenge.”
- The award ceremony honours the States, Union Territories (UTs), Urban Local Bodies (ULBs), and recipients for their excellent achievements and performances.
PMAY-U, or the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana:
- It is being carried out as a flagship initiative of the Indian government by the Ministry of Housing and Urban Affairs (MoHUA).
- It promises a pucca house to all eligible urban households by 2022, when the country celebrates 75 years of independence, in order to ease the housing shortage in urban areas among the EWS/LIG and MIG groups, including those living in slums.
- Under PMAY, the housing shortfall is determined using the assessments of demand made by the States and Union Territories (U).
Coverage:
- The Mission encompasses the entire urban region, including Statutory Towns, Notified Planning Areas, Development Authorities, Special Area Development Authorities, Industrial Development Authorities, as well as any other State-authorized organisation in charge of urban planning and regulation.
Features:
- Every home covered under PMAY(U) has a bathroom, a kitchen, and access to electricity and running water.
- The Mission supports women’s empowerment by allowing female members to own properties on their own or in joint ownership with other members.
- The elderly, those with disabilities, members of minority groups, single women, transgender people, and other weaker and more vulnerable groups within society are also given preference.
- Beneficiaries of a PMAY(U) home are guaranteed an acceptable standard of living as well as a feeling of security and pride in their home.
- The COVID-19 pandemic has caused urban migrants and poor migrants in the country to alter their movement patterns. To save money on housing, urban migrants frequently choose to live in slums, unauthorised colonies, unregistered communities, or peri-urban areas.
- As a result, the Affordable Rental Housing Complexes (ARHCs) sub-scheme of the Pradhan Mantri Awas Yojana – Urban was introduced by the Ministry of Housing & Urban Affairs (PMAY-U).
- This will make it simpler for urban migrants and the poor to find top-notch, reasonably priced rental accommodation nearby their places of employment, whether they work in the industrial sector or in a non-formal urban economy.
