INS Aravali Commissioned: Boosting India’s Maritime Information Warfare

The Indian Navy commissioned its latest shore-based facility, INS Aravali, at Gurugram, Haryana, on 12 September 2025, marking a significant advancement in the nation’s maritime information, communication, and warfare capabilities. The base, named after the enduring Aravali mountain range, was inaugurated in the presence of Admiral Dinesh K. Tripathi, Chief of the Naval Staff, and top naval leadership.

Key Features and Strategic Role

INS Aravali is designed as a nerve centre for maritime domain awareness (MDA) and is equipped with state-of-the-art artificial intelligence and big data analytics for real-time surveillance of maritime activities across the Indian Ocean Region. The facility acts as a command and control hub, directly supporting various information and communication centers, enhancing India’s ability to respond to evolving threats.

Supported by ISRO’s GSAT-7R satellite, INS Aravali strengthens India’s communication and command structure with seamless integration into Navy networks. Its global data-sharing platform is linked to over 43 multinational centers across 25 countries, enabling rapid international collaboration for maritime security, disaster response, and anti-piracy operations.

Symbolism and Vision

The base’s crest features prominent mountain imagery representing the unwavering Aravali range, and a rising sun, symbolizing vigilance and the dawn of new technological capabilities. The motto—“सामुद्रिकसुरक्षायाः सहयोगं” (Maritime Security through Collaboration)—reflects its commitment to cooperative, technology-driven security measures in the Indian Ocean Region.

INS Aravali embodies the MAHASAGAR vision (Mutual and Holistic Advancement for Security and Growth Across Regions), reinforcing India’s position as the “Preferred Security Partner” in its strategic neighborhood.

Commissioning Ceremony

The commissioning ceremony featured naval traditions, including a guard of honour, Sanskrit invocation, and the raising of the naval ensign. Captain Sachin Kumar Singh became the first Commanding Officer, symbolizing the Navy’s drive towards information dominance, collaboration, and operational excellence.
