On 18th February, we celebrate the birth anniversary of Sri Ramakrishna Paramhans, one of India’s greatest spiritual luminaries. Born in 1836 in the village of Kamarpukur near Kolkata, Sri Ramakrishna’s life and teachings continue to inspire millions worldwide. The Priesthood at Dakshineswar Temple

At the age of sixteen, Ramakrishna moved to Kolkata, where his elder brother, Ramkumar, took him under his wing as a priest at the Dakshineswar Kali Temple. This opportunity to serve in the temple would prove to be the turning point in Ramakrishna’s spiritual quest. The temple, consecrated in 1855 by Rani Rasmani, was a major center of religious activity, and it was here that Ramakrishna’s devotion to Mother Kali deepened.

When his brother passed away shortly thereafter, Ramakrishna was appointed the chief priest at Dakshineswar. His dedication to the worship of Mother Kali became all-consuming.
