The National Defence Academy (NDA) exam, conducted by the Union Public Service Commission (UPSC), is a gateway for candidates aspiring to join the Indian Army, Navy, and Air Force. This article provides updated information for the NDA exams scheduled in 2025.

Vacancies

The total number of vacancies for NDA 2025 is 406, distributed as follows:

  • National Defence Academy: 370 vacancies
    • Army: 208 (including 10 for female candidates)
    • Navy: 42 (including 12 for female candidates)
    • Air Force: 120
      • Flying: 92 (including 2 for female candidates)
      • Ground Duties (Tech): 18 (including 2 for female candidates)
      • Ground Duties (Non-Tech): 10 (including 2 for female candidates)
  • Naval Academy (10+2 Cadet Entry Scheme): 36 vacancies (including 7 for female candidates)

Eligibility Criteria

A. Nationality

Candidates must be:

  • A citizen of India, or
  • A subject of Nepal, or
  • A person of Indian origin who has migrated from Pakistan, Burma, Sri Lanka, and East African countries with the intention of permanently settling in India.

B. Educational Qualification

  • For Army Wing: Passed or appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination from a recognized board.
  • For Air Force and Naval Wings: Passed or appearing in 10+2 or equivalent examination with Physics and Mathematics.

C. Age Limit

  • NDA 1 2025: Candidates must be born between July 2, 2006, and July 1, 2009.
  • NDA 2 2025: Candidates must be born between January 2, 2007, and January 1, 2010.

D. Marital Status

Candidates must be unmarried.

E. Physical Standards

Candidates must be physically fit as per the standards defined by UPSC. Common disqualifications include:

  • Height and weight issues
  • Dental problems
  • Vision and eye problems
  • Hearing impairments

Selection Process

The selection process comprises two stages:

  1. Written Examination: Consists of two papers:
    • Mathematics: 300 marks
    • General Ability Test (GAT): 600 marks
  2. Services Selection Board (SSB) Interview: Tests intelligence, personality, and suitability for a career in the armed forces.
