SEBI Grade A Updated Exam Pattern

The Staff Selection Commission or Bank exam pattern differs significantly from SEBI’s specialized testing framework. The SEBI Grade A (Assistant Manager) selection process is divided into three progressive stages: Phase-I, Phase-II, and Phase-III.

Both Phase-I and Phase-II are online Computer-Based Tests (CBT), followed by a personal interview round.

Phase-I: Online Screening Examination (Qualifying Stage)

The Phase-I exam consists of two separate online papers conducted on the same day. This phase acts strictly as a screening filter; marks scored in Phase-I are not counted toward final selection.

  • Question Type: Multiple Choice Questions (MCQs)
  • Negative Marking: 1/4th (0.25) mark deduction for every incorrect answer in both papers.
  • Aggregate Rule: Candidates must clear the individual minimum cut-offs for both papers and secure an overall aggregate cut-off of 40% to qualify for Phase-II.

Phase-I Exam Structure

  • Aggregate Rule: Candidates must clear individual paper cut-offs and secure a minimum overall aggregate cut-off of 50% in Phase-II to be shortlisted for the interview.

  • Application Fee Details: Application fees for General/OBC/EWS candidates are ₹1,000, while SC/ST/PwBD candidates pay a nominal intimation charge of ₹100.

The Prayas India’s Smart Strategy to Crack SEBI Grade A

The SEBI Grade A selection framework differs heavily from general banking exams due to its high focus on professional technical commerce domains. At The Prayas India, we have built a structured training system to help aspirants master specialized subjects like Costing, Companies Act, and Accountancy, ensuring a high merit score in Phase-II.

Our 4-Stage Specialized Preparation Blueprint

1. Core Finance & Commerce Concept Domination

  • Demystifying Non-Commerce Streams: A large number of applicants come from engineering or legal backgrounds. Our faculty starts from basic accounting entries, guiding students systematically into advanced financial statement analysis, balance sheet interpretations, and corporate accounting modules.
  • Costing & Companies Act Decoded: We provide concise summary matrices and flashcards for the Companies Act (2013) provisions and Costing formulas (like Marginal Costing and Variance Analysis), helping students quickly solve direct, factual questions.

2. Phase-I Speed & Baseline Threshold Tracking

  • Aptitude Optimization: Since Phase-I Paper 1 is qualifying, we train students to reach the minimum 30% cut-off safely using time-saving shortcut tricks in Quantitative Aptitude, Logical Reasoning, and English Language.
  • Paper 2 Integrated Preparation: We prioritize structural clarity in Economics, Finance, and Management, helping students clear the 40% threshold in Paper 2 while building a solid foundation for the Phase-II written round.

3. Phase-II Descriptive Writing & Drafting Excellence

  • Descriptive English Keyboard Drills: Paper 1 in Phase-II requires online typing for Essays and Precis. We host dedicated typing bootcamps on our software tools to help students build speed, avoid grammatical errors, and structure analytical economic essays smoothly.
  • Advanced Problem-Solving for Paper 2: Phase-II Paper 2 features high-yield technical caselets. We train students using numerical mock sets based on Accounting Standards, Lean Systems, and Macroeconomic models to ensure precise answers.

4. Simulated Mock Evaluation & Panel Interviews

  • Real-Pattern Mock Testing: Our custom Computer-Based Test (CBT) platform mirrors the actual SEBI interface, including strict sectional locking timers and negative marking constraints.
  • Personalized Mock Interview Panels: Phase-III (Interview) carries a vital 15% weightage. We organize mock interview panels featuring former financial regulators and domain experts to help you polish your body language, tone, and responses to capital market queries.

The SEBI Grade A selection process is divided into a three-stage competitive framework:
  • Phase-I (Online Screening): Two objective papers conducted on the same day. Paper 1 covers General Aptitude, and Paper 2 covers stream-specific subjects. It is qualifying in nature with a mandatory 40% aggregate threshold.
  • Phase-II (Main Exam): Two online papers that decide final merit. Paper 1 is Descriptive English (Writing Skills typed via keyboard), and Paper 2 is an advanced stream-specific objective/descriptive paper.
  • Phase-III (Interview): A personal interaction round that holds a 15% weightage in final merit calculation, while Phase-II accounts for 85%.

  • Develop Typing & Drafting Speed: Practice structuring and typing essays, precis, and reading comprehension answers on a computer keyboard to master the Descriptive English section.
  • Take Standard Mock Tests: Use mock engines that mirror strict sectional locking times and negative markings to track speed and filter weak concepts.
  • Phase-I: There is no competitive merit cut-off; candidates must simply clear individual paper limits (30% for Paper 1, 40% for Paper 2) and score a flat minimum overall aggregate of 40% to qualify.
  • Phase-II: The competitive cut-off for the General Stream (UR Category) generally hovers between 62 and 67 marks out of 100 depending on the difficulty level of the cycle. Final selection requires clearing both the aggregate threshold (minimum 50%) and matching the combined Phase-II + Interview rank cutoff.
